Before leaving for Thailand we read up on recommend areas to visit. We knew we wanted to organize a boat trip to the Phi Phi Islands but heard the islands were over crowded and to give it a miss.
I’m so glad we decided not to go with the advice to skip the islands. If you’re visiting Thailand these islands are a must see.
After reading what seemed hundreds of reviews, we settled on a small boat company. They were very professional and knowledgeable, and we’d definitely use them again. Our tour group only consisted of only 15 people, which made for a more intimate experience. The best way to beat the crowds and was to take a sunrise boat trip. It meant a 4:30 wake-up call, but the views (and no crowds) made it all worth it. The boat company picked us up from our hotel and dropped us off at the Phuket marina. We collected our snorkeling gear and boarded the boat all before sunrise. Khai Nai island sunrise breakfast was an unforgettable memory. The surroundings were absolutely stunning.
Crystal clear waters and empty beaches greeted us on our arrival to Bamboo Island (another bonus to an early morning arrival: having the islands to ourselves). We were the first boat to pull up to three of the islands we visited and often there was not a soul in sight. I think visiting in the off-season helped, but the saying “the early bird gets the worm” also rings true.
Have you been to the Phi Phi Islands? Which one was your favorite? We’d love to hear your experience.
Below is a video with some of the highlights from our boat trip. If you’re visiting Thailand make sure you take the time to visit this beautiful area.
