A beautiful scenic drive through glorious mountains and quaint chocolate box villages led us to the wonderful Hotel Ermitage. Based in Schönried, Gstaad, in Southwestern Switzerland, the hotel is a first class experience amongst the beauty of the Alps and fresh mountain air.
A stay at the Ermitage is wonderful way to relax and breathe in the mountain air with the Swiss Alps encasing your soul.
We were warmly welcomed upon our arrival by helpful, attentive staff who were more than accommodating and provided a first class hygiene plan that was evident in the organization of the hotel. The cleanliness of the Swiss helps brings comfort in the post-corona travel world.
After a little tour of the hotel, highlighting the wellness and facilities on offer we were warmly invited to afternoon tea in the grand reception room.
The cakes were simply delicious and the surroundings divine through the picturesque windows. The impressive chandeliers hung beautifully overhead with the galleried library overlooking the lobby.
Entrance to the Saane Senior Suite was a divine moment. The beautiful touch of the heart flower wreath on the suite door welcomed us into our suite.
The lobby room entrance led to a separate toilet, an open-plan bathroom with jacuzzi bath, twin beds, a cosy, inviting living space with a wonderful view of the Swiss Alps from our private balcony.
The suite was both elegant and inviting, the warm wooden flooring enhanced the ambience of the room.
The gracious touches were seen in the displays of fresh fruit and mouth- watering chocolates and tea-cakes.
The bath itself contained two colored wicker bags filled with spa delights and enabled us to transport all our personal belongings to the spa. The balcony offered stunning views overlooking the terrace and landscaped gardens.
The cerise colored geraniums were highlighted amongst the backdrop of the Bernese Alps.
In Winter, the grey slated stone feature wall would undoubtedly provide the finishing touch, with its glowing fireplace after a day on the slopes with the softness of the rug firmly beneath your tired feet.
Peaceful, tranquil and a recipe to feed the mind, body and soul. 3,700sqm of wellness is evident in the superb layout of the spa surrounded by breathtaking landscapes.
Our experience was met with a swim in both the indoor and outdoor salt-water pool which are known to provide the ultimate care in well-being, both relaxing and detoxifying.
The salt-water pools with their massage jets and bubble jets were a welcome treat after a long drive and despite the rain it did not stop us from enjoying a swim in the heated sports pool. A true way to unwind and relax, no matter what time of day.
Surrounding both outdoor pools, scattered generously were copious amounts of sunbeds just waiting for the sun to peep out.
The fireplace upon entrance to the spa, screams warmth and relaxation set against a backdrop of breathtaking beauty. We chose to indulge in the pools and relax in the beautiful relaxation room, with access to herbal teas which were warmly welcomed.
The feeling of well being was hard to leave behind, so an early morning swim was on the menu the following morning. Nothing beats a morning swim and this was a truly amazing experience as we witnessed the morning mist rise from the pools. A wonderful way to start the day.
This is offered in the impressive lobby with its wonderful views and beautiful flower displays. The Bargblick Lobby offers cosy couches and is an inviting area to relax and take in the breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains.
Our tea was beautifully served in the quaint English rose tea cups with a choice of many delightful cakes. Our attentive waiter was happy to meet our requirements and cake was superbly served. The limoncello torta was sweet and succulent and was a perfect combination to the English tea that warmed beautifully in the china teapot.
What better way than to sit back and relax sipping tea and coffee gazing out of the floor to ceiling windows to a splendid mountainous view.
The Ermitage provides guests with an unforgettable experience and offers up a daily activity menu and concierge service.
The location is perfect for exploring the upscale town of Gstaad or hiking in the Swiss Alps.
There are so many rooms of delight including: saunas, steam rooms, relaxation rooms, a play area for the children, cigar room, wine cellar, arcade, a private movie theater, spa treatments, gym, and so much more.
Having spent time in the spa we were famished and were so happy to be treated to a wonderful meal in the Laurenz Schmid dining room parlor, one of many parlors on offer at the Ermitage.
The warm ambience of the lilac color scheme and water feature in the center of the room provided a lovely setting. The grey velour chairs blended in beautifully with the warm lilac tones and soft lighting created the perfect atmosphere.
Our menu provided a choice of either fish or meat and a carefully chosen wine to compliment both dishes. Exceptional Swiss cuisine with a Mediterranean twist. The light green salad tossed in an exquisite Italian dressing was the perfect starter to compliment the main course of succulent veal on a bed of perfectly cooked creamy risotto.
We were able to choose our own cheese board from an abundant amount of specially selected cheeses which were stored beautifully in glass topped wooden drawers. A lovely touch to equal the amazing different choice of cheeses on offer. The chutneys were plentiful and the fresh mango chutney enhanced the richness of the strong cheeses perfectly. It was difficult to stop as all the cheeses just melted in your mouth and left you wanting more.
However, we had to stop as the temptation of the strawberry cheesecake won over the cheese! This cheesecake was made to perfection. The strawberries were rich in taste encased in a sweet coulis, fresh and combined with the buttery shortcake base and filling it was simply superb. The sorbet simply complimented the cheesecake and combined flavors perfectly.
A wonderful dining experience that left us both fulfilled and satisfied. We saw diners leave their tables to head towards the wine cellar where they were able to choose the choice of wine and have served at the table. How wonderful.
We headed to the One Million Stars bar for after dinner drinks, a perfect way to end a perfect day. The bar is highlighted with Swarovski crystals and shines brightly amongst the chic furnishings.
Exactly one million crystals rock this bar, hence the chic name. A place to unwind, relax, indulge in an extensive range of cocktails, long drinks, grappas and gins whilst enjoying the piano music accompaniment. Chic, classy and cool and a bar menu that offers delicate culinary delights. A great way to end your day enjoying your favorite drink.
