We were fortunate to spend a weekend at the wonderful, recently remodeled, centrally located Hotel Felix in Zürich. Just a short walk from the Zürich HB station (250 meters) you’ll arrive at Hotel Felix situated in the old town surrounded by an abundance of cafes and bars. The entrance to the Hotel is simplistic, yet chic, with color schemes that blend well offering an ambience of calmness.
The friendly, reception staff were exceptionally helpful and discreet making our stay enjoyable. We checked in very quickly and everything was superbly organized for our planned visit. There was no need to worry of our “new normal” as the hotel was marked out well with tables socially distanced and plexiglass in place.
The secret gem of this hotel is it’s newly built fifth floor apartment with a private terrace overlooking the bustling city of Zürich. Access is gained by an elevator that takes you directly into the apartment or you can enter by a private stairwell that leads up to the apartment. A great treat after a days shopping and sightseeing to be able to walk in, kick off your shoes and sit down and relax.
The apartment is generously sized, the interior design has been carefully thought out and the lay out is exceptional. The subtle, elegant theme of greys and pure whites embellished a wonderful feeling of serenity and tranquility. The warmth of the original beam work highlighted the room well and gave the apartment a magnificent chalet feeling of coziness.
The wood flooring gave the room a feeling of calm and the soft blues brightened the room as the rays of sunshine filtered through the room. Everything was superbly clean and was both stylish and contemporary in design. The lavish double bed, was a feature of the room nestled under the attic beams. The crisp, clean, white linen were both welcoming and serene.
The apartment offered a full sized bath, a walk in shower, his and hers basins and a separate toilet area. The open plan layout worked well with the bathroom carefully hidden behind the centralized wall. It offered privacy and yet felt spacious and roomy without feeling confined. The walk in rain shower was delightful along with the beautiful smelling scents of the herbal gardens and orange scented shampoo.
Soeder products produced locally in Zürich were used by the hotel and the scents were divine. The lavender hand wash gave the feeling of being in a spa. We were happy to find out that the products could be purchased at the local store in Zürich. The room offered a full sized fridge, coffee machine with a good range of capsules and a small functional kitchen. The velux windows were plentiful and at your choosing could remain open or closed. The room was also air conditioned as I can image in the height of summer the attic room could become exceptionally hot so a great welcome to the room.
The direct access from the apartment to the terrace is what takes your breath away. Stepping out onto your very own rooftop terrace is what made this apartment special and highly recommendable. The gentle color scheme of greys and whites continued out onto the terrace and the wrought iron balcony is equipped with drapes that can be closed for either privacy or protection from the heat of the sun. A wonderful idea as high up on the terrace can get pretty hot. A comfortable seating arrangement was in place along with a small table and chairs to enjoy al fresco dining if desired.
The spectacular views across the city were simply stunning. The church bells rang, the hustle and bustle of city life could be felt and the rooftop terraces were filled with people enjoying themselves. The abundance of churches surround you and on an evening like the one we had it was a wonderful feeling to sit back, glass of wine in hand and enjoy the plentiful views and life on the terraces. The terrace was safely guarded and spacious and with direct access back into the apartment was wonderful to top up that well deserved glass of wine.
Breakfast is served in the main lobby and Hotel Felix offers a continental breakfast for their guests. Breakfasts here are plentiful and have a good range of fresh croissants, cakes, bread, yogurts, muesli, meats, cheeses, fruit and a small cooked section of eggs and bacon. Enough to keep you going as you venture out into the city of Zürich.
We were fortunate enough to take our breakfast back to our terrace where we enjoyed the morning sun, fresh croissants and freshly squeezed orange juice. Our breakfast certainly was a welcomed treat as we sat and enjoyed the stillness of the city.
Hotel Felix is a wonderful, small hotel with a big attitude. The newly refurbished rooms really blew us away and the helpfulness of the staff made our stay most enjoyable. The location is great and only a short walk to the Bahnhofstrasse offering a wide range of shops and eateries. If you are looking for a getaway in the heart of Zürich we would highly recommend staying at this hotel with its amazing rooftop apartment. We will definitely be returning.
