Luxury in Zurich – Savoy Baur en Ville

Savoy Baur en Ville is a famous hotel located in the heart of Zurich. It was the first hotel to be built and run in the city in 1838. During its fascinating history it has known numerous remodels and additions, culminating in a complete rebuild in the 1970’s that included replicating the hotel’s historic facade. This glorious and famed hotel is not to be missed!

The Savoy is conveniently located near all the hustle and bustle of the city, on the most famous street in the city, The Bahnhofstrasse. It is easily reached by a short tram ride from HB or by a 15 minute walk.

This five star hotel has all the bells and whistles from the moment you enter. Upon our arrival, we were greeted by the attentive staff and offered warm wash cloths to wash our hands. We gazed in delight at the lovely lobby adorned by a beautiful chandelier. We observed all the modern day comforts, yet the old world touches remained to intrigue our imaginations.

As a family of five it is often difficult to find hotels that suit our family’s needs. The Savoy Baur Ville offers interconnecting suites, which makes it feel as if we are all together but we still have our private space. Each room was graced with Renaissance art and beautifully decorated. Champagne and chocolate welcomed us upon our arrival.

Between our interconnected rooms we had 4 bathrooms, which was an absolute luxury for a family of five. Each room had a divinely comfortable king sized bed with crisp white linens. The pleasant smell  of gorgeous, fresh flower bouquets placed in each of our rooms enhanced our enjoyment.

While enjoying the delightfully fragrant 2 dozen pink roses, I glanced out the window and was further mesmerized by our room. A small balcony opened to the street, where to the left I could see the famous Fraumunster church, with the even more famous Grossmunster church in the distance and, wow, what a view. And that is not all. The hotel overlooks Paradaplatz. Where you can see busy shoppers on the streets below and trams whizzing by. However, with a closing of the door, we were whisked right back into the peace and beauty of our French inspired sitting room.

After a short rest in our room, we took advantage of being in the city center. We, happily, left to explore the shops and it was so convenient to pop back up to our room to drop off our newly purchased treasures. After a day on the town we were ready for dinner in one of the two restaurants connected to the hotel, the Orsini.

The Orsini is an Italian restaurant with an elegant twist to the typical menu.  We were greeted in the hotel lobby by the courteous staff and guided to our dinner table in the lovely dining room. The waiters were gracious and even entertaining as they spoke with us in Italian and, coming from Ticino, we appreciated it, as our German is very rusty.   We enjoyed some delightful dishes, from rainbow colored pasta, to ravioli, fish and more. All the entrees were paired with delicious wines. To say the least, we wined and dined and thoroughly enjoyed our wonderful meal in the Orsini ristorante.

The hotel offers both a sit down and a continental breakfast. Fortunately, we happened to be there on Easter Sunday and we found ourselves spoiled by a most scrumptious Easter Brunch, fit for a king. The grand breakfast room has large windows that look out onto the Bahnhofstrasse. Each of us had made to order breakfasts, with eggs, breads, cheeses, fruits and everything you would expect and more from a delicious, five star hotel breakfast.

Our stay at the Savoy Baur en Ville checked all of the five star boxes for us. The location is superb as it is in the very heart of Zurich. The grandeur and charm are there but, also, every modern comfort. This should be a  definite destination if you are looking for a relaxed, pampered experience in the midst of a busy city.  Savoy Baur en Ville is dreamy and is five stars for a reason. Thank you for the wonderful stay, we hope to return soon.
