Morcote has been voted one of the most beautiful villages in Switzerland and it’s easy to see why. Morcote is perched on the side of the mountain overlooking Lake Lugano. Restaurants are scattered along the main-street with lake view seating. From the town center you can hike up to Church of Santa Maria del Sasso over looking Lake Lugano. Definitely a must for your list of places to visit in Ticino.
The Gelmersee is tucked away on-top of a mountain in the Bernese Oberland. The lake is actually a reservoir and accessible by the steepest funicular in Europe.
Usually you will find us carving up the slopes, but we took a different route this past weekend and gave tobogganing a try. We have been sledding in Switzerland before but never in Andermatt . I was a little hesitant at first because sledding runs can be quite intense, especially the night runs, so I was happily surprised to find out Andermatt has sledding for all ages.

We have visited the Engadin area during the summer, so of course the draw of winter sports had us wanting to return. We finally got to experience the Bernina Express train and I must say it was AMAZING. Crossing over the Swiss Alps on this little red train (UNESCO World Heritage railway) is a wonderful way to soak in the sights of beautiful Switzerland. The Bernina Express is the highest-altitude train in Europe climbing over the Ospizio Bernina at 2,253 meters.
